I got my first phone call from Miss Stolar and that would mean my first Dominican Republic and International call of 2009!!!
They have arrived in Jarabacoa, where they will be spending the week. It was raining when they left for Jarabacoa, and really raining when they got there. Their ride could only take them as far as the base of the hill. From there they had to load these trucks and get themselves and their luggage up the hill to where they stay for the week. It took an hour and a half to get all the luggage and everyone up the hill in the trucks. So it was a lot of luggage and it was wet and muddy.
Tonight, everyone is in their rooms and settled. They’ve dried off and they have filled themselves with traditional Dominican cuisine. This included: “Sancocho” (first picture on left), which is plantains (second picture) and yucca and chicken served with rice on the side. Tostones (third picture), which are fried plantains. Dinner was really good and definitely a hit with the students.The DC and Logos students spent the evening and had a great time together. After dinner they went over rules, and had some activities and competitions. They had to memorize the team verse in English and Spanish (see it on the right of the blog), and competed for the best as well as a yell off. The competition was complete with judges, American Idol style:

Randy Jackson was played by Miss Shawnda (what up dawg!!)
Uncle Bruno (the bodyguard) aka Mr. Farmer
And the winner was Los Chimichurris (team 4)!!!
So the trip is off to a great start. Though, Miss Stolar would like you to pray for a couple of the kids who are a bit sick to their stomachs, though it’s nothing that is un-manageable.
Tomorrow, they will be taking the stuffed animals, clothes, matchbox cars to be sorted for distribution later. They will also learn their work assignments tomorrow.
Miss Stolar is proud of her student's language skills as well as the fact that they are picking up new stuff including some local slang.
Miss Stolar really would like to encourage you to continue to leave messages for the students. They will be reading it when they get back and they will really enjoy and appreciate seeing these messages and prayers that you have been leaving throughout their trip!

Ramon - the lizard (whom you met yesterday)
Juan - a Cockroach - Rest in Peace (early grave)
Juan gave them a proper welcome and then was given a proper goodbye!
Please do pray, they are pretty tired and every morning begins at 6am! Here is how the day goes.
Individual Devotions at 7am
Breakfast at 7:30,
Group devotions at 8,
Leave for the orphanage at 9.
Work from 9:30-12:30,
Lunch is at 12:30.
Free time and practice.
Children’s ministry at 2:30
Back at ranch about 5 for free time and showers before dinner at 7pm. Praise and worship at 8. Group games, videos, and hang out time in the evening. Lights out is 11pm!
Miss Stolar will try to upload pictures and her own words when she can, but will call me periodically (not every night though).
Keep in mind that the weather posting on the right is for where they spend the weekends. I’m going to look for their local weather for you as well.
