7:45 PM Update

Blogger has been down since Miss Stolar last blogged, so my last attempt to update you all didn't post and has been lost in cyberspace.



Anyways, It's Heather here, and I have a great update for you!

Miss Stolar just called with an update!



The weather there has just been beautiful as you can see from the pictures she has been posting. Right now there is a misty cool rain falling, but it's rather beautiful in it's own way. FYI, the weather widget on the right is actually the temperature in Santo Domingo. To give you perspective, in the mountains of Jarabacoa, it's 8-10 degrees cooler than what it is in Santo Domingo.



There is going to be a slight schedule change, which strangely the students are excited about. They now are going to be getting up at 6:30...and sleeping in a half hour longer than they have been all week. Yeah, they cheered when they heard the news. Imagine that!!



Another announcement they will get tonight is that the leaders made special arrangements with the cooks to not cook any more mangu!!! You think the students will be at all bummed to hear this? Probably not!!! They are going to get pancakes and fruit for the rest of the week which they love. They might also get some yucca!

Every night they have team competitions with the four groups that Miss Stolar told us about. She hopes to get some pictures so you know who was on which team. Last night they had a competition to see who could hold a pyramid the longest. All teams managed to hold for 3 minutes! Tonight they will be doing a scavenger hunt. They will also teach each other 5 slang terms in English and 5 in spanish. Then they will take those 10 words and do a skit using them!

The ministry has gone well. The students come back pretty dirty, sweaty and exhausted. They have not been able to do their puppet show yet because they lost power today and the puppets dance to music. They did do the Prodigal Son skit today and helped the younger kids make animal mobiles and the older kids make sun catchers.

Tomorrow they spend time at Palo Blanco (aN after school day care center). Here they will be giving the kids the stuffed animals and the matchbox cars. They will get to play games with them. Something to remember is that these kids often eat their only meal here because of how poor the community is. The team has really loved coming here. The kids who are there are 3 year olds and also 3rd through 6th graders. This is the student's last trip to Palo Blanco this year. Several of the students who've come on the DR trip have really strong connections with these kids. Chelsea S (who sponsors one of them) and Courtney are really going to find tomorrow rough because this will be the last time they ever get to see these kids because they are seniors. So please pray for these girls.

The trip has gone really well though. The relationships here are really good and the only bothersome thing they've had is terrible mosquito bites. See, that warm weather they try to rub in has it's down fall. I don't have any mosquito bites! ;) I told Miss Stolar that we were all saving them some cold weather for them! :)

Another prayer request is that we need to remember to pray for the DCHS team going to Jamaica tomorrow. Also Erica's sister is leaving for Swaziland with her mission team. Pray for these teams to have safe travel and for their ministry to bear much fruit!
