Before We Leave....

We had the day off from school today so that we could pack and get everything ready. Sleeping in is how most of us began our day...and then we hit the ground running as we thought through everything and anything we might possibly need (and then some) for our trip. This is quite a task for teenagers as one never knows what they will want to wear on any given day, including what's necesary for accessorization! :)

Last night we had a meeting together with parents and students from 7pm-9pm. It was a time to share with the parents what we'll be doing in the DR, give out packing lists, talk about our host families, etc. In addition to that, our drama and mime teams were able to perform one of the presentations that they have learned for our ministry time in the orphanage. The drama team performed a skit that told the story of "The Feeding of the Five Thousand" and the mime team performed silently to a Spanish version of the song "I Can Only Imagine."

During our evening, we were sure to spend some time praying together for the country of Haiti in light of the recent earthquake events that happened Tuesday afternoon. The Dominican Republic and Haiti share the island of Hispaniola. Though Haiti has experienced indescribable devastation, The Dominican Republic has not. My friends in Santo Domingo have told me that they felt the earthquake Tuesday, but they had no damage and they are safe. Thank you, Lord! We plan to take an army bag filled with medical supplies to give to one of the Dominican pastors who has a minstry in Haiti to help out with the need. Please keep the country of Haiti in your prayers.
