Our First Day of Ministry

We started our day today bright and early at 6am…well, that’s when the alarm went off. Some got up right away, others hid themselves under the covers til the last possible minute soaking up every ounce of sleep they could get. The team headed out for personal devotions at 7am with a beautiful tropical view of the mountains and trees as their background. What a wonderful setting for opening up the Word of God and hearing from the Lord, while admiring His amazing creation all around. The breakfast bell rang at 7:45am and we headed down for pancakes and bananas, followed by morning devotions at 8:15am. At 9am, we started our trek down the hill so we could get on the bus and head to “El Arca” orphanage.

Upon arrival at the orphanage, we unloaded all of our craft supplies and the toys that we brought to give to the kids on Saturday. We divided into groups and we immediately started our work projects. Our first work team included several Logos students along with Caitlin, Stephen, Todd and Jeremy. Their job was trimming palm trees, loading the debris into a pickup truck and moving them to a woodsy area. Our second work team included a group of Logos students along with Brydon, Luke, Savannah, Kelli, Brianna, Lindsay, Emily, Carly, Nate and Curtis. Magalie & Allie, our craft leaders, worked on organizing all of our craft supplies, sorting the toys and shirts and making gatorade for the team. By the time we stopped for lunch, the team was very tired and very dirty and very ready for a break.

After we had lunch and the kids got home from school, it was time for our childrens ministry!!!!! Our students have so much been looking forward to meeting the kids, so big smiles were all around as they began to arrive! We were able to run around any play with the kids outside about 20 minutes and then we all gathered inside for craft time. The craft of the day was musical instruments made with cups, paper plates and rice. It was so fun for them as well as for us….especially when we all gathered in the amphitheater to sing songs together. The skit team performed the “Machine Skit” today and the dance team performed “Heart of Worship.” We had one minor glitch when we discovered that the electricity was out in the city, meaning that we wouldn’t be able to use the music that was supposed to accompany the dance team. But God took care of it, by way of the Logos team…who played the guitar and sang the song for us while we did our praise dance. What a cool way for God to unite the teams to minister together.

As you can see, we had a wonderful first day of ministry…and we’re all really excited about the days to come as well. Before I close, I thought I would post several pictures from the day so you can see some of the things that we experienced today…
